WHY:
| March 7, 2013 marks the 70th Anniversary of the
opening of the historic Zenimura Field and the official start of organized
baseball played behind barbed wire at the Gila River Japanese American
Internment Camp in Arizona during WWII.
The Oakland A’s have a long history of supporting the
Japanese American community, and their game date and location marks the
closest MLB site to the historic ball field, located approximately 40 miles
south of Phoenix.
